After years of silence from the band, the Welsh band made an insane comeback of the new year with three sold out shows taking place in Cardiff and Edinburgh, selling out Cardiff in less than a minute.

Catfish and the Bottlemen are a beloved post-punk indie rock band that left a mark in the second wave of BritPop with the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Interpol. Their first album, The Balcony (2014), was a staple for any Tumblr user with a blog, record player and a decked out American Apparel closet. Their iconic album cover made the rounds on Tumblr during the website's prime, lumping the band with the upcoming soft-grunge aesthetic at the time which followed the glitz and glam of the early 2000s. Their second album, The Ride (2016), landed them opening for bands such as Green Day, introducing them to a whole new demographic of listeners which would ultimately lead up to the peak of their success.

The band's last album was released in 2019, with a cancelled tour and a dried up social media prescence, the band dropped hints at new music earlier in the year. Dropping Showtime, their first single since 2019, the band marked a new chapter in the books of indie rock music.

Despite the troubling rumours surrounding the band, as two of the original members quietly departed from the band in 2021 and 2022 respectively, Catfish and The Bottlemen's popularity has yet to wane from its original peak Tumblr status.

If you weren't lucky enough to get tickets to the upcoming shows, Catfish and the Bottlemen are playing Reading and Leeds music festivals along with other festivals dotting all over the UK. With a new album coming out soon, according to front man Van McCann, we can expect a tour not too far behind.

You can listen to Catfish and the Bottlemen's newest song, Showtime, here.
